The Surface Transportation Board’s change in the law governing interstate tariffs has created an outgrowth of “tariff companies” claiming to be experts in publishing interstate tariffs. Be cautious of any company who claims to publish a custom tariff for your business. Not all tariffs are the same.
The greatest misconception about interstate tariffs is that it only consists of a listing of prices and services. This is incorrect. The pricing and services portion of the tariff is only about 10% of a total tariff. The majority of properly published tariff is legal terms, conditions, disclaimers, and standards of operating procedures. Do not purchase a tariff that merely contains a sales software tool and a price list.
